About us

The Know-Center is Austria's competence center for knowledge management and perceives itself as a point of origin of IT innovations at the interface between science and industry. Since its establishment in 2001, the Know-Center has been developing highly innovative IT solutions for knowledge management. Its specialist areas of excellence are:

  • Conceptual design and implementation of intelligent IT services for knowledge work and learning in organizations and communities (e.g. recommending knowledge resources in the work context)
  • Conceptual design and implementation of methods for the discovery and content based analysis of knowledge in complex knowledge spaces (e.g. search based on the similarity of documents)

The Know-Center is partner of Austria's Competence Center Program COMET.

The following facts indicate the success and the competence of the Know-Center since its founding in 2001:

  • About 290 successful knowledge management projects with partners from science and industry.
  • Sustained and successful partnerships with 22 companies.
  • Successul implementation projects with companies in diverse industries, e.g. microelectronics, public administration, media and further education.
  • About 511 publications in reviewed journals and proceedings as well as in books and magazines.
  • Successful completion of about 94 diploma/master and bachelor theses, 25 dissertations und 3 habilitations.
  • Publication of the scientifically well-reputed J.UKM (Journal of Universal Knowledge Management) and J.UCS (Journal of Universal Computer Science).
  • Organisation of 28 events on knowledge management with a total of more than 4.250 attendees from science and industry.
  • Organisation of I-KNOW, the international conference on knowledge management and knowledge technologies.
