Projects 2003
Our core competencies are reflected in the conducted projects in the years ('01, '02, '03, '04, '05, '06, '07, '08). In these projects we have covered projects in the field of knowledge management, e-learning, integrating working and learning, and business-process-oriented knowledge infrastructures.
Projects
AD-HOC Learning
Partner: Hyperwave Software Research & Development Ges.m.b.H.
|
|
Teaching and Learning are generally seen as conscious processes. At work these processes are rather unconscious: Experts don't have time to provide their know-how in a structured and advisory form. And novices just want to get information that is necessary to accomplish tasks fast and efficiently. The objective of this project was to support task-oriented teaching and learning under time pressure based on an integration of Hyperwave's knowledge management and E-Learning solutions. Such a system has been implemented and evaluated in a case study. The results have been documented in a White Paper for Hyperwave. They show the applicability of the AD-HOC Framework and launch a new area of work-integrated learning support in organisations. Summary (PDF, German only): |
GKMS - Generic Knowledge Management System – Follow up
Partner: CONCEPT Data Systems Systemanalyse und Softwareentwicklung GmbH
|
|
The goal of this project is the design and partial implementation of an information warehouse for internal use in small companies under consideration of knowledge management aspects: different types of information such as e-mail, office documents, and company data are stored, structured, brought into context, and can be searched via an unifying portal. The information existing in the system is being made textually available and through the extraction of meta-information a unified, comfortable search in the whole stock of documents is realized. A contextualized combination of the information returned by the search query can help to simplify knowledge-creation and -transfer. Because most of the information is customer-relevant data, we also research the coherences to customer relationship management systems. In this years follow up of the project, we implemented web interfaces for a documentation database, support contracts and a task management system. Summary (PDF, German only): |
HWSA - Hyperwave Solution Approaches
Partner: Hyperwave Software Research & Development Ges.m.b.H.
|
|
This project aimed to demonstrate functionality of the knowledge management system Hyperwave by means of typical business problems to support Hyperwave sales personnel in executing their sales processes. A developed demodataset, which is based on commonly implemented business processes, existing Hyperwave implementations and solutions, promises to ease the burden for potential Hyperwave customers to relate to Hyperwave solutions that are to be presented. The demodataset, which is the main result of the project, thus is a profound basis for the focussed, problem-oriented demostration of Hyperwave's functionality. The developed demodataset was presented at the largest IT exhibition worldwide - the CeBIT 2003 in Hannover. Summary (PDF, German only): |
MagIR - Magna Intelligent Retrieval
Partner: Hyperwave Software Research & Development Ges.m.b.H., Magna Steyr
|
|
This project targets design, development and introduction of a system for creating and managing presentations at Magna Steyr. Without a structured way of organisation an retrieval, the large number of presentations in use at Magna Steyr leads to multiple redundancies, increased workload and ambigious presentation of the company to the public. On the technical level, the MagIR project tries to create a powerful, centralised and user-friendly solution of the problem using Hyperwave products. To guarantee acceptance of this solution, another focus of the project is on incorporation of user requirements and on support and evaluation. In accordance with this philosophy, the Know-Center does not only provide a piece of software in the MagIR project, but also accompanies future users through two piloting phases and evaluates system benefits. QKnow - Qualitymanagement-based Knowledge Management
Partner: Hyperwave Software Research & Development Ges.m.b.H.
|
|
This project aims to identify and support organizational knowledge processes based on business processes (according to ISO9001:2000) at the company Hyperwave. By comprehensively analyzing Hyperwave's business processes, a concept for the design of Hyperwave's new corporate intranet is developed. A prototype of this intranet is developed through the course of this project. The main result of the project is represented by a sophisticated IT infrastructure, that suits Hyperwave's specific business and knowledge needs. Summary (PDF, German only) |
VA-EWM
Partner: VATECH HYDRO

eLearning as a Completion of Traditional Training Methods in Computing Instruction
Partner: Technical Didactic Spezialist Press
The cooperation between TDSP/I2F and the Know-Center Graz continues with preceding work from the years 2001 and 2002, i.e. collaboratively developing comprehensive offerings of high-quality learning content basing on a blended learning concept.
The emphasis in this year's project was on three distinct areas of work: The learning content of TDSP/I2F's office courses had to be approved by an internationally recognised certification authority, the offering of TDSP/I2F had to broadened through adding a course dedicated to teaching multi-media on computers and quality assurance efforts regarding TDSP/I2F's eLearning offerings had to be supported.
The results from these three areas consisted of an office course that was handed in for certification under the MOS program (Microsoft Office Specialist), a course for teaching basic knowledge in multi-media and a report on the evaluation of the eLearning system of TDSP/I2F.

eLearning Innovation
Partner: Dynamic Media Ges.m.b.H
The last years have seen a rapid growth of the importance of eLearning standards that support development, management and application of eLearning content. Among these standards are the industry standards of AICC (Aviation Industry CBT Committee) and ADL/SCORM (Advanced Distributed Learning/Sharable Content Object Reference Model).
In a cooperation project, the Know-Center, Graz and Dynamic Media have developed a testing environment that checks, whether eLearning content complies with certain regulations from AICC and ADL/SCORM, which concern communication and management of eLearning content. As a result it can be ensured that standard compliant parts of eLearning content are implemented correctly. The testing environment developed therefore contributes to enhancing quality assurance in developing eLearning content significantly.

RIAM - Regional Intangible Assets Monitor
Partner: Joanneum Research, InTeReg
The goal of the project between Know-Center and Joanneum Research, Institute for Technology and Regional Policy, is to develop a methodology for the introduction of an Intangible Assets Monitor within a regional network or cluster.
A broad review of current approaches provides a good overview of the state-of-the-art within the field. From this, an instrument is developed which measures critical "Intangible Assets" of a thematic network. In a concrete case, this can be used to uncover strengths and weaknesses of the network and subsequently monitor its development. The instrument provides the means for coming up with measures to influence the network's development. Two case examples illustrate the implementation of our approach within a regional industry cluster and a political network initiative.
